Music
Every other week throughout the school year, our preschool classrooms enjoy a special music experience designed to nurture a joyful connection to music. Through singing, rhythm, movement, and listening, children explore how music can help us celebrate, express feelings, and bring people together.
Our music teacher introduces a variety of musical traditions, and rhythms—from marching songs and sea chanties to work songs that highlight the steady beats people have long used to help their bodies move and work together. She also shares many instruments including her own guitar, Norman.
Through these studies, the music program introduces us to the rich roots of American music, helping us appreciate how many musical styles—from blues and soul to rock and rap—grew from these tradition.
Above all, our goal is to help children develop a sense of ownership and confidence with music.
